Josephine Family Tree
A small page of the family tree going back on my father's side.
Spencer Book
A book written by my father's great grandfather Francis Marion Spencer, of our
family history. According to this book, Francis's great grandmother, Mary
Jackson was first cousin to President Andrew Jackson. Andrew Jackson's
parents immigrated from Ireland in 1765, two years before he was born.
Mary was born in Ireland and married there to Thomas Spencer I (born 1745) and
they later moved around 1760 to North Carolina and started the family from which
I am descended.
Interesting fact: One-third of all US Presidents had their ancestral origins in the northern province of Ireland (Ulster).
My father's side of my family tree is descended from the immigrants from the
north of Ireland who had already settled as many as 250,000 along the American
frontier by 1800.
Most of these early migrants were "Ulster Scots", those people of Scottish
origin who spent a century or more in the northern counties of Ireland before
moving to the New World. These pioneering people and their descendants, known in
the USA as the 'Scotch-Irish', have often been called "the first true
Americans".
